Letter Of Reference To MBAM & KIM SAFARIS

From Russel Dow Dollar

I seldom write letters of reference regarding hunting trips because all trips are different and game movement can cause one year to be a great hunting experience and the next not near as good, however in the case of Mbam and Kim Safaris I take great pleasure in writing this letter.

In May of 2010 I hunted the Doume Zone for Bongo. It was an intense hunt. I experienced the fauna and flora of the rain forest for 13 days until I harvested my Bongo. The accomodations and food were great and the effort by the Safari Company and my PH were even better. I was so pleased by the hunt that I booked a hunt in February of 2011 in Mbam and Kim's Djivorke zone for their savannah animals with the Lord Derby's Eland being my primary quest. At the end of the 14 days of hunting, I had shot a great Lord Derby's Eland, Sing Sing Waterbuck, Harnessed Bushbuck, Western Kob and a fine Western Roan. I missed an easy shot at a trophy Western Hartebeest. The trophy quality of the animals I shot was excellent and the shipping back to the States went off without a hitch. I am now planning a trip back to the Savannah area to hunt Western Savannah Buffalo and Western Hartebeest.

I had great pleasure, visiting my long time friend Bekir Cem Cantürk in Cameroon, back in April, 2008. He has been telling me about his operations in Cameroon for a long time, but as we all know, there is nothing like the real thing. I had to live, smell and see it all and decide for myself, what Cameroon was all about. I tell you what, he wasn't exaggerating, Cameroon is all he said, plus more. I spent entire months of April and May, 2008 in Cameroon, visiting my friend's all three hunting zones in Savannah, Galery Forest and Rain Forest. The accommodations were superb. Food was 1st class. Hunting was unbelievable. I helped him guide two hunters from the U.S. in Savannah zone. In between hunts I did my own foot safaris around the camp and was amazed with the number of big game animals I saw within few hundred yards from the camp. All zones were great, but what impressed me the most, was the willingless and the zest the duikers possessed coming to my friends' Pigmy trackers' calls in the Rain Forest zone. What we did was, walking, stopping and calling every 100 yards or so and at least every other or third time a duiker, sometimes two, would come running at full speed towards us. The Pigmy trackers called the Duikers by making a high pitched sound with their mouths, while pinching their noses with their index fingers and thumbs. Imagine the number of Duikers the Rain Forest holds. The diversity of the fauna and the plant life in Cameroon was amazing. I have never seen trees as interesting looking as the ones I saw in Cameroon. About 600 of the 900+ pictures I took during my trip were of trees. I also highly recommend extending your trip for a couple of days, for a visit of the Cameroons' Atlantic coast as well. I bet you that, it will be a decision you won't regret. I don't know about you but I am already planning a 3 month long trip back to Cameroon, in early part of 2009.
